Let's talk about old world and new world monkeys !!!.
Monkeys are primates (Any mammal of the group that includes lemurs, monkeys, apes and humans). They are mammals that are mainly adapted for living in trees.For example : Macaques, mandrill, colobus, baboons etc..
I have 4 facts about old world and new world monkeys for you today!!
Old World Monkey
- Old world monkeys are from africa and asia. They include baboons, colobus, proboscis, mandrills etc,.
- The tail of an old world monkey do not grasp branches, like that of a New World Monkey.
- Old World monkeys have close set nostrils and hard pads at their bottoms to help them sleep comfortably sitting up.
- Baboons are large african monkeys. They spend most of their time on the ground. They are strong and agile enough to catch other monkeys, birds and small antelope.
New World Monkey
- Monkeys from the rainforests of central and south america are called new world monkeys.
- They include howler monkeys, spider monkeys, woolly monkeys, and capuchins, as wells as marmosets and tamarins.
- New world monkeys have wide, round, nostrils that are set far apart and no sitting pads.
- They often have muscular tails that can grip like hands. These tails are described as "prehensile"
